CARSON, Calif. --- Cal State Monterey Bay made a favorable first impression in its inaugural appearance in the California Collegiate Athletic Association's (CCAA) men's soccer championships Friday night at Toro Stadium on the campus of Cal State Dominguez Hills.

The Otters (9-8-3) battled host Cal State Dominguez Hills to a scoreless tie through regulation and two overtimes. However, Cal State Monterey Bay's attempt for an upset came up one kick short when it lost a shootout to the Toros, 8-7.

With the two teams even at eight kicks apiece, Tiburico Casillas slipped a shot past Otters' goalkeeper #Brenden Baca#. That left it up to Cal State Monterey's #Kevin Proschold# to keep the shootout alive.

However, Proschold's shot went wide right and Cal State Dominguez Hills (17-3) escaped with the win and advanced to the CCAA's championship match against Sonoma State on Sunday beginning at 2 p.m.

The Seawolves reached the title match by defeating Cal State L.A., 2-0, earlier in the evening.

Cal State Dominguez Hills is making its fourth consecutive CCAA Tournament final while Sonoma State will try to avenge a 2-1 overtime semi-final loss to the Toros last season.

Cal State Dominguez Hills has won five conference tournaments since 1999 while the Seawolves' lone conference title came in 2005 when they recorded a 1-0 double-overtime victory in the 2005 championship match.
