SEATTLE, Calif. --- Senior point guard #DShon Cannon#'s 22 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists highlighted Cal State Monterey Bay's battle with Western Washington University that ended in a disappointing 82-77 loss for the Otters in the Sodexho Tip-Off Classic hosted by Seattle Pacific University.  CSUMB falls to 0-2 on the season while WWU improves to 1-1.

After the Otters tied the game 69-all with 7:26 remaining on a jumper by #Ryan McBride#, they were held to four free throws over the next 6:14 as a WWU free throw made it a 78-73 lead with 1:12 to play.

Cannon then hit back-to-back layups, cutting the Vikings' lead to one, 78-77, with 20 seconds to go. The Vikings followed with two free throws that made it a three-point advantage, 80-77, with 11 seconds to go.

With four seconds left, CSUMB's #Juston Willis# had an open look at a 3-pointer from the left corner that would have tied the game and sent it into overtime, but the ball rimmed out. Two more WWU free throws with one second left made for the final margin.

The Otters' #Joe Mitchell# scored 16 points and pulled down 7 rebounds while #Augie Johnston# added 13 points and McBride had 10.

In a contest where neither team held a lead of more than five points throughout, the Otters shot 54% from the field, including 50% from 3 point range.

CSUMB continues its stay in the Pacific Northwest for a second shot at the Vikings on Monday in Bellingham.  Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at Carver Gym on the campus of Western Washington.
