SAN DIEGO, Calif. --- In their second consecutive contest against a Division I opponent, the Cal State Monterey Bay men's basketball team battled tough to the end in a 87-76 loss at the University of San Diego Monday night at the Jenny Craig Pavilion.
Midway through the first half the Toreros held just a 15-13 advantage. Over the final 10 minutes USD outscored CSUMB, 30-19. In the second half USD built their lead to as many as 23 on two occasions before the Otters battled back and got to within 11 on numerous occasions, including the final score of 87-76.
Four Otters scored in double figures, paced by guards #DShon Cannon# and #Augie Johnston#, each with 15 points. #Joe Mitchell# added 14 points and 7 rebounds while #Ryan McBride# chipped in 13 points. Cannon also dished out 7 assists in 36 minutes of play.
The Otters open the regular season in the Pacific Northwest this weekend at the Sodexho Tip Off Classic hosted by Seattle Pacific University. CSUMB will face host Seattle Pacific at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, followed by a match up with Western Washington at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday.
