SANTA CLARA, Calif. --- Cal State Monterey Bay men's basketball opened its exhibition season with a 66-49 loss to Division I opponent Santa Clara of the West Coast Conference Friday night in Santa Clara.

#Ryan McBride# led Otters with 16 points. #Augie Johnston# added 13 and #DShon Cannon# scored 11 points.

The Broncos' John Bryant scored 26 points and pulled down 14 rebounds to help new Santa Clara head coach Kerry Keating win his debut game.

The Broncos led 32-18 at halftime. CSUMB cut the deficit to single digits after a layup by McBride made it 35-28 with 14:13 remaining. That was as close as the Otters would get after Santa Clara took a 10 point lead with a 3-pointer by  Jonathan Gunderson with 10:55 to play.  The Otters went on a 9-4 run to end the contest.

CSUMB continues exhibition play against a second Division I opponent when they travel to play at the University of San Diego Monday, November 12th. Tip off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.

The Otters open regular season play at Seattle Pacific next Friday, November 16th.
