SANTA CLARA, Calif. --- Britnea Moore and Dana Andrews each scored 18 points in a 83-61 exhibition loss to Santa Clara as the Cal State Monterey Bay women's basketball team opened their season Wednesday night at the Leavey Center in Santa Clara.

"I was pleased with our effort throughout the game. We came away with a lot of positives on the night. Santa Clara led the nation in 3 point shooting last year and after the half we managed to make some adjustments and limited them to just 2 second half 3's, " said head coach Amber Magner. "We out rebounded a considerably taller and bigger DI opponent and forced them into 28 turnovers with out any full court pressure."

In 36 minutes of play, the Otters' Alma Lopez also tallied 14 points and registered a game-high four steals.

"Dana, Britnea and Alma had good offensive and defensive nights, " said Magner. " To see them start off the season taking control is encouraging. We also had very good role play from a number of individuals including Ja'Nae Westmoreland and Jessica Harris. We were aggressive on both ends of the floor, getting to the line 33 times against a DI opponent is positive and encouraging for the future."

Elizabeth Doran posted a game-high 21 points to lead Santa Clara.  Tracey Walker and Jen Gottschalk each added 15 points for the Broncos.

A member of the NCAA Division I West Coast Conference, Santa Clara will play their next exhibition game against a second California Collegiate Athletic Association program when they host San Francisco State this Sunday, Nov. 4th.

The Otters play their final exhibition game against another Division I opponent this Saturday Nov. 3 at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. Tip off is scheduled for 2 p.m.
