SEATTLE, Wash.---Cal State Monterey Bay (3-5-2) fell to 13th-ranked Seattle University (11-2) by a score of 4-0 Sunday afternoon at Championship Field in Seattle, WA.
The first period was nearly even as the lone Redhawks goal came when Jake Ellig's shot off a deflection found its way to the back of the net in the 22nd minute of the match.
The Otters out-shot the Redhawks 6-5 in the first period but were unable to capitalize on early chances to score. #Andrew Burkhammer# and #Andy Breault# each posted shots on goal for the Otters.
Seattle U. broke the match open with two goals five minutes apart in the second period. A header by Chris Hodges in the 71st minute was followed by a goal by Cameron Mertens. SU's Ellig added his second goal late in the match to account for the 4-0 margin of victory for the nationally-ranked Redhawks.
Seattle University is a member of the NCAA Divison II Great Northwest Athletic Conference that includes Alaska Anchorage, Alaska Fairbanks, Central Washington, Montana State-Billings, Northwest Nazarene, St. Martin's, Seattle Pacific, Western Oregon and Western Washington.
The Otters return to action Sunday at 3:30 pm against GNAC member Saint Martin's University in Lacey, WA.
