SEASIDE, Calif.---Cal State Monterey Bay overcame a two game deficit to grind out a 28-30, 14-30, 30-26, 30-24, 15-12 victory over #16 Cal State Los Angeles.  The Otters (7-12, 5-3 CCAA) have now won 7 of their last 8 matches on the season.

"I am very proud of how we persevered and played to win, " said head coach Jody Garry. "We certainly weren't perfect, but we didn't hold onto errors and let lost points affect the next opportunity.  We let our errors go and moved on to the next opportunity. Volleyball is a game of errors, it's how you react that determines your ability to be successful."

Courtney Taubert led CSUMB with a team high 15 kills to go with 19 digs and 3 service aces while Brittany Etchings posted 12 kills, 12 digs  and 2 aces for the match.

Christine Ricketts had a big night at the net with 4 solos and 3 block assists to go with her 11 kills.  Libero Melissa Nickas recorded a team high 20 digs while Dana Grimm had 24 assists and Juliette Ward 15 as the two split setting duties against the Golden Eagles.

The Otters played big at the net and kept the Golden Eagles off balance with tough serving throughout as they posted a season high 13 blocks and 9 service aces on the night.

"We changed up our serving and we were able to put pressure on their passing game and keep them off balance, " said Garry. "I thought the team stayed within our game plan and executed what our staff believed would give us a chance to be successful. I'm happy for our team, I hope they are proud of their collective effort."

Cal State LA (10-5, 6-2 CCAA), ranked 16th in the nation, got 23 kills from Bianca Gorospe and 20 kills and 22 digs from Lindsay Laakso.

CSUMB returns to CCAA play Friday night as they host #21 UC San Diego at 7 pm in the Otter Sports Center gymnasium.
