Burkhammer's overtime goal gives Otters thrilling Senior Day victory

CCAA playoff hopes in tact for Otters as they move into fourth place overall

SEASIDE, Calif. --- Cal State Monterey Bay kept their California Collegiate Athletic Association post season hopes in tact with a thrilling  2-1 overtime victory over San Francisco State this afternoon at the CSUMB soccer field.  The Otters improve to 9-7-2 (6-5-2, CCAA) while the Gators fall to 7-10-2 (4-8-1, CCAA).

The physical match remained scoreless until the 73:12 mark, when #Kyle Millerick# connected on a free kick from #Andy Breault# to give the Otters a 1-0 lead.  With less than ten minutes left in the game, SF State's Casey Poston connected on a ball from Spencer Schwandt to tie the game at 1-1.
  
The score remained 1-1 until the 96:11 mark of the first overtime period when #Andrew Burkhammer# scored an unassisted game winning goal to give CSUMB a critical CCAA victory.

The Otters out shot the Gators 19-14 for the game.  #Brenden Baca# had another strong showing in goal with seven saves for the Otters.

With the win, CSUMB has 20 points on the season and now sits in fourth place overall in the CCAA.  CCAA leader Sonoma State and Cal State Dominguez Hills have secured post season berths while CSUMB remains in contention for the final two positions with #3 Cal State LA (22 pts) and #5 Cal Poly Pomona (18 pts) with this weekend's matches remaining to be played.

The Otters have direct control over their post season fate as they face off with Cal State LA this Sunday afternoon in their final regular season contest of 2007.

The CCAA Championships are scheduled for Nov. 2-4 at the 8,000-seat Toro Stadium in Carson, Calif. The event will feature four men's and four women's teams competing over three days with the winners claiming the conference title.
