Graeme Jaap enters his eighth season as head coach of the Cal State Monterey Bay men's soccer program in 2026.
Jaap has steadily elevated the Otters since taking over the program in 2019. Through the conclusion of the 2025 season, he owns a 48-35-23 overall record at CSUMB, including a 26-25-15 mark in CCAA play. He has guided the Otters to three consecutive CCAA Championship Tournament appearances from 2022–24 and the program's first NCAA Tournament appearance of the Division II era in 2023.
The 2023 campaign marked the most successful season of CSUMB's NCAA era. Jaap guided the Otters to a program-record 12 victories and a 12-5-4 overall record, including a 7-2-2 mark in CCAA play. Monterey Bay advanced to the CCAA Championship Tournament and earned its first NCAA Division II Tournament berth, advancing to the second round before falling to Cal Poly Pomona. Jaap was named the CCAA Coach of the Year for his efforts.
In 2024, Jaap led Monterey Bay to another winning campaign, finishing 8-4-6 overall and 5-2-4 in CCAA play while returning to the conference tournament. Six Otters earned All-CCAA recognition, highlighted by All-West Region selection Mason Ward.
Jaap guided the Otters back to the postseason in 2022, finishing 8-8-2 overall and 6-5-0 in conference play. CSUMB finished fourth in the CCAA, its highest conference finish at the time, and earned its first CCAA Championship Tournament berth since 2007. Colin O'Mahony became the program's first CCAA postseason major award winner when he was named CCAA Defensive Player of the Year.
After posting a 9-6-2 record in his first season in 2019, Jaap followed the canceled 2020 campaign by leading the Otters to a 7-4-6 record in 2021. The consecutive winning seasons made Jaap the first coach in CSUMB men's soccer history to accomplish the feat.
In 2025, Monterey Bay finished 4-8-3 overall and 1-6-3 in CCAA play.
Jaap most recently served as the assistant at Division I Stetson University under former All–CCAA player Kyle Gookins in 2017. Prior to that, he was an assistant at Division I Florida International.
Jaap began his collegiate coaching career at his
alma mater, Brescia University in Ownesboro, Ky. While there as head coach, he led the Bearcats to the 2010 Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championship.
He left Brescia to join the staff at NCAA Division II power Rollins College. The Tars averaged 18 wins per season in
Jaap’s four years on the bench, winning three Sunshine State Conference titles while making four NCAA Tournament appearances.
After beginning his collegiate playing career at the University of Mary (N.D.),
Jaap transferred to
Bresica, where he earned NAIA All–America honors as a sophomore in 2003. Injuries limited his role over his final two collegiate seasons.
He played club soccer in his native Scotland with the Hamilton Accies and earned two caps with the Scotland U18 National Team.
Jaap graduated from Brescia University in 2006 with a degree in business concentrating in human resources.
