CSUMB Golf Teams Help Out Tiger Woods Foundation - October 12, 2011

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. --- The Cal State Monterey Bay men’s and women’s golf teams assisted the Tiger Woods Foundation and Nike Golf in a fundraising event hosted at Spyglass Hill Golf Course and Monterey Peninsula Country Club on Tuesday, Oct. 11 and Wednesday, Oct. 12.

The athletes arrived before the tournament began, and helped set up and take down the tents and equipment. Later, the golfers found some time to visit with Tiger Woods. Their conversations ranged from playing on their home course, Bayonet & Black Horse Golf Courses, to the men’s team bringing home the NCAA Division II National Championship.

Tiger conducted a clinic on the driving range at Monterey Peninsula Country Club on Wednesday, Oct. 12 and a few of the CSUMB golfers assisted in the set up.

Dylan Jackson, a junior on the men’s golf team and a member of last year’s National Championship team, spoke with Tiger Woods for a few minutes after setting up the clinic that Tiger conducted on the driving range for tournament participants.  “He (Tiger) didn’t have to stay after his clinic was over, but I thought he was very nice and personable,” he said.  “I talked to him about Bayonet and the renovations they have made to the course.  It was a little intimidating to talk to him at first, mainly because he is the reason I started playing golf, but he started to throw in a few jokes and it became very comfortable.”

“I was fortunate enough to watch Tiger's clinic and take a picture with him and talk with him,” said freshman Chris Jodis.  “He was actually very easy to talk to and very nice.  We talked about the national championship team from last year and our high hopes for the next few years.”

Some of the members of the women’s team were also able to chat with Tiger.  “He seemed really interested in what we're doing, and I thought that was cool,” said junior McKenna Corriea.  “I would for sure do this again in the future.  On top of meeting Tiger, it was an amazing experience.  I definitely think the tournament was a huge success.”
