Jacob Flores
JACOB FLORES: SIZZLING HOT SEASON
Third baseman Jacob Flores will enter his final year playing for the Cal State Monterey Bay Otters after having a very successful summer season with the Waimea Waves.  The Waves won the regular season with a 25-10 overall record. An All-Star selection in the Hawaii Collegiate Baseball League, Flores led the conference with 31 runs batted in and was second with 12 doubles. full story





Alyssa Matheson
ALYSSA MATHESON: BUILDING A FOUNDATION
Cal State Monterey Bay forward Alyssa Matheson and the Otter women’s soccer team began two-a-days last week with high enthusiasm.  Matheson transferred from Santiago Canyon Junior College last year and made her impact on the team quickly by leading the team with 16 points and seven goals. full story





Moe Perez
MAUREEN "MOE" PEREZ: AN INSPIRATIONAL LEADER
Cal State Monterey Bay women’s volleyball head coach Jody Garry hired Maureen "Moe" Perez at the beginning of the summer as her assistant coach for the 2009 season. Prior to coming to CSUMB, Garry served as Perez’s assistant coach at Washington State University for two years.  Perez was selected most inspirational in college and high school.  full story





Mario Khoury
MARIO KHOURY: A NATIONAL PLAYER MAKING AN IMPACT
With the motto this season as “Back In Line In 2009”, senior Mario Khoury and the 2009 Cal State Monterey Bay men’s soccer team will report to camp in less than three weeks to begin preparing for their season. full story






Danielle Walker
DANIELLE WALKER: REACHES FOR THE FAST LANE
Walker begins her senior year as a member of CSUMB's sailing team in 2009-10 season.  Competing against NCAA Division I schools on a weekly bases, Walker's primary position is skipper in the two-person crew during competitions. Walker has qualified for the Pacific Coast Championships all three years.  In her freshman year, she won the North South Designate regatta in Santa Barbara in Spring 2007. full story



Your Otter - Jody & Addy Garry
THE GARRY FAMILY: A NEW ADDITION
Less than a month ago, the CSUMB Otter Athletics family welcomed a new addition when Assistant Athletic Director Kirby Garry and head women’s volleyball coach Jody Garry’s daughter, Addy, was born. With volleyball season a month away, the Garry family has been spending some quality time together. full story




Bob Sevene
BOB SEVENE: LEADER IN HIS FIELD
After coaching for almost 40 years, Bob “Sev” Sevene is about to begin his second year as the head men’s and women’s cross country coach at Cal State Monterey Bay.Sevene has coached every college level and seven post-collegiate distance runners in cross country, track and road races including Joan Benoit Samuelson who won the gold medal in the  marathon at the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles. full story



Nick Racklin
NICK RACKLIN: UNUSUAL ROAD TO CSUMB
First year assistant coach Nick Racklin took an unusual path before coming to Cal State Monterey Bay, With a background in both baseball and basketball, Racklin competed for the Solano Mudcats , a semi-pro baseball team in Vacaville, for three years before focusing on a basketball coaching career. Racklin was a part of CSUMB history when the men’s squad captured two post season victories and made it to the California Collegiate Athletic Association tournament championship game.  full story



Aly Tsuchiyama
ALY TSUCHIYAMA: TAKING A NEW ROLE
Some athletes hang up their shoes and leave the world of college athletics after their final game.  Others feel drawn to stay and make a difference for future athletes.  Women’s basketball player Aly Tsuchiyama is one of the former.  She is taking her first step as the new CSUMB Athletic Department’s intern this summer. full story




Vince Otoupal
VINCE OTOUPAL: BUILDING CHAMPIONS - ONE VICTORY AT A TIME

On Oct 30, 2008, Stanford graduate #Vince Otoupal# stepped into the job of Cal State Monterey Bay Athletic Director. His responsibilities in this role are to direct the 13 men’s and women’s intercollegiate teams as well as guide the fundraising and marketing for the university’s athletics program. full story

ALEX DAVIS: MAKING A SPLASH
In her third-year as an assistant coach at Cal State Monterey Bay, Alex Davis is not your typical water polo coach.  Growing up in Albuquerque, NM, Davis’s family were all swimmers but she was drawn to the competitive game of water polo.  full story

SHAE OLDS/WARREN FREEMAN: BUILDING LEADERSHIP SKILLS IN ORLANDO
Softball player Shae Olds and men’s basketball player Warren Freeman were selected to represent Cal State Monterey Bay at the 2009 NCAA National Student-Athlete Development Conference May 24-27 in Orlando, Fla. full story





Tivi Latu
ETIVISE LATU: PLAYING LIKE A PRO
Cal State Monterey Bay women’s golf member Etivise Latu received her diploma in Global Studies on May 16. Just six day earlier, she was competing as the only Californian in the 23rd PGA Minority Collegiate Golf Championship in Port St. Lucie, Florida where she placed second in the individual competition in the field that consisted of players from all NCAA Divisions. full story




Jose Sanchez
JOSE SANCHEZ: BEATING THE ODDS
Cal State Monterey Bay men’s basketball player Jose Sanchez was the first in his family to graduate from high school. On May 16, he will reach another milestone when he walks across the stage to receive his degree in human communication from California State University, Monterey Bay. The leadership and guidance of his mother and coaches helped him get there. full story
