Miguel Wins MVP, White Named Coach of the Year to Headline Group of Nine Otters on All-CCAA List

Brady Miguel becomes first ever back-to-back CCAA MVP, Walt White Named Coach of the Year for third time in four years

May 09, 2023

CHICO, CALIF. –
Otter Baseball was heavily represented on the All-CCAA Award list. In total, nine Otters were honored spread across the first-team, second-team and honorable mention distinctions, while Brady Miguel (Hollister/San Benito HS) was named conference MVP for the second consecutive season and Head Coach Walt White was named Coach of the Year.

Coach White earns his third CCAA Coach of the Year honors in four seasons. He's notched 30+ wins in each of the past four seasons, and seven of his 10 full seasons at the helm (2020 cut short due to COVID-19, 2021 canceled due to COVID-19).

Miguel capped his regular season with a stellar regular season with a .359 average with 15 doubles, two triples, five home runs and 44 RBI. He closed out the regular season on a 17-game hitting streak and a 41-game on-base streak. He is the first ever student-athlete to win back-to-back CCAA Baseball MVP honors since the award began in 1985.

Joining Miguel on the first team list were second baseman Drew Williams (Hollister/Cabrillo College), outfielder Chase Lindemann (Santa Clarita/Hartnell College), and utility player Nico Hartojo (Arvada, Colo./MPC). Williams led the CCAA with 12 home runs and 57 RBI in his first season with the Otters. Lindemann boasted a .369 batting average and a CCAA best .515 on-base percentage, serving as one of the best leadoff hitters in the conference. Hartojo did everything for the Otters this season, with a CCAA best .407 batting average, double digit home runs, and a stellar 5-2 record on the mound.

Ryan Platero (Hollister/MPC) earned second team honors after going 6-0 on the bump as the Otters Friday starter. Nate Rohlicek (Gilbert, Ariz./UNR), Chris Tonna (Fremont/Chabot College), Kyle Guerra (San Leandro HS), and JJ Engman (Renton, Wash./Shoreline CC) all picked up honorable mention All-Conference nods.
