SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – The Cal State Monterey Bay women's basketball team opened its exhibition slate Saturday afternoon with an 84-48 loss to NCAA Division I Cal Poly at Mott Gym.
Junior #Helen Suarez# scored 14 points and notched four assists to lead the Otters in their first game under new head coach Renee Jimenez. Senior #Dana Andrews# added 11 points while playing in her home town of San Luis Obispo. Junior #Janet Oseguera# pulled down a team-high six rebounds.
Cal Poly shot 55-percent from the floor and 70-percent from behind the arc.
"Each game is critical for what we do," Jimenez said. "We'll take the bad and learn from it but most importantly, we'll take the good and build on that."
The Otters play their final exhibition game on Tuesday, Nov. 11 at University of the Pacific, a NCAA Division I school in Stockton, Calif. CSUMB opens their regular season at the Notre Dame de Namur University Tip-Off Tournament on Nov. 15 in Belmont, Calif.
