BOX SCORE
SEASIDE, Calif. — The final pieces of Cal State Monterey Bay's CCAA Tournament puzzle fell into place Thursday night following the Otters' 76–50 win over visiting Cal State Stanislaus in The Kelp Bed.
CSUMB (18–6, 15–6 CCAA) clinched third place with the win and will host a first round game in the CCAA Tournament Tuesday, Mar. 5. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. in The Kelp Bed.
“I'm really proud of our group that started the game for us and the energy they played with,” said CSUMB Head Coach
Renee Jimenez. “I thought that really set the tone for our team.”
As she did in the first meeting with Stanislaus, a 70–44 win in Turlock, Jimenez enjoyed the opportunity to utilize her entire roster Thursday with 13 different players scoring. Senior forward
Brittani Jefferson (Palmdale/Antelope Valley JC) led the balanced effort with 13 points and 10 rebounds, her eighth double–double of the season.
CSUMB also got double figure scoring from
Holly Holcomb (Ventura/Buena HS) and
Danielle Padilla (Salem, Ore./Chemeketa CC) with 11 points apiece.
Angelique Bailey (Fontana/Etiwanda HS) added 10 points while senior guard
Jessica Fontenette (Chino Hills/Ayala HS) led both teams with four assists and five steals.
“Our bench was fantastic tonight,” said Jimenez. “Anytime you can get 48 points from the kids that come off the bench your going to be tough to beat.”
“Tonight's game will give us great momentum going into a tough matchup with Chico. We need to play focused and inspired basketball and send our seniors off with a big win.
The Otters will finish the regular season with a key regional game against Chico State Friday in The Kelp Bed. Chico entered the week ranked No. 3 in the West Region and CSUMB No. 4.
Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
