TEAM-BY-TEAM RESULTS | TEAM & INDIVIDUAL LEADERBOARDS
LITCHFIELD PARK, Ariz. – Junior
Alex Sobstad (Trondheim, Norway/Midland College) will be making his first trip to Louisville, Ky. for the NCAA Championship after finishing third at the NCAA Division II Central/West Super Regional at The Wigwam Resort in Litchfield Park, Ariz.
Sobstad earned the top individual berth after carding a 1-over par 73 for a three-round total of 4-under 212.
Cal State Stanislaus sneaked by Chico State and Colorado School of Mines to win the team title with a even-par 288 in the final round for a 1-over 865 total. Chico State finished second with a 869, followed by CSM (871), Western Washington (876) and Grand Canyon (877).
With an 889 team total, the Otters missed out on defending their 2011 NCAA Championship title by 13 strokes as the top five teams advance to the national tournament.
Sophomore
Jered Stone (Van Nuys, Calif./Monclair College Prep) was CSUMB's second-best finisher with a 4-over par 220 to tie for 19th. Junior
Christian Rose (Fresno, Calif./Fresno CC) concluded with a 230 (T61st) and sophomore
Kolby Teare (Vista, Calif./Rancho Buena Vista HS) turned in a 232 (T72nd). Freshman
Brandon Hortt (San Diego, Calif./SDSU) rounded out the Otters with a 234 (T80th).
"This was another exciting day for our team," said
CSUMB Head Coach Jason Owen. "We played well at the start but unfortunately we fell apart on the last nine holes. It was difficult to go through but we talked as a team and this will only make us stronger. Our bright spot was Alex, who finished third overall and advanced to Nationals. He played very solid and I expect a very strong showing from him at the National Championship."
The NCAA Championships are May 15-19 on the Cardinal Club Golf Course in Louisville, Ky.
