This Week In Otter Athletics...

March 21, 2011

SEASIDE, Calif.
– It is Spring Break at Cal State Monterey Bay but the spring student-athletes are still hard at work with games all week.  The CSUMB baseball and softball squads have home games while the water polo team competes in Bakersfield. The women's golf team hosts the Sixth Annual Lady Otter Golf Invitational.

Baseball

The CSUMB baseball team play a four-game split series with Cal State Stanislaus this weekend, hosting single games on Friday and Sunday while traveling to Turlock for the doubleheader on Saturday.

The Otters are a half a game ahead of the Warriors in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) standings.  The teams only share one opponent thus far in the conference schedule, with the Otters taking a game from Chico State in four-game series while Stanislaus dropped a doubleheader last weekend to the Wildcats.

Junior #Jared DeCastro# is the top hitter in the CCAA with batting average of .459 prior to Tuesday's non-conference game. Junior #Danny Nelson# leads the conference in doubles with 12 and picked up his 13th in Tuesday's non-conference game. He is also ranked seventh with a .381 batting average.

Softball

With the heavy rains in northern California, the CSUMB softball squad took a much needed break this past weekend. In their last series, the Otters picked up three victories over San Francisco State that included an eight-inning 6-3 finale.

The Otters are three and half games back from Cal State Stanislaus who sits in sixth in the CCAA standings. The Warriors dropped three of their four games to Cal State San Bernardino this past weekend on the road.
