SEASIDE, Calif. – Cal State Monterey Bay softball coach #Andrea Kenney# announced that Riverside Community College standout
Jackie Serna has signed a National Letter of Intent to play for the CSUMB Otters for the 2011 season.
“We are pleased to have Jackie Serna join our softball family at CSUMB,” Kenney said. “She has the ability to play a number of positions and is excited to do whatever it takes to help the team.
A two-time Louisville Slugger/National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-American (NFCA) Junior College All-American, Serna hit .417 last season with 45 hits and 38 runs while batting in 41 runs. She racked up six doubles, a triple, eight home runs and nine stolen bases.
Serna was named Orange Empire Conference Most Valuable Player after finishing the season in the Top-5 in batting average, runs and runs batted in.
“Being named MVP of a conference as strong as the Orange Empire Conference says a great deal about her softball abilities,” Kenney said. “There is no doubt in my mind that Jackie will contribute in positive ways to the program.”
