CHICO, Calif. - The Cal State Monterey Bay baseball team traveled to Nettleton Stadium at Chico State for the Otters final California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) match-up of the 2010 season. The Otters fell to the Wildcats 18-2, Friday night.
Freshman #Ronnie Fhurong# was perfect for the Otters at the plate, going 2-for-2 with one double. Sophomore #Chris Lopiccolo# came up clutch, with a hit in the eighth, leading to a Otter run.
Chico started off hot in the first three innings scoring eleven runs. The third was plagued with three CSUMB errors.
The Otters scored one run in the fourth. Freshman second baseman #Nolan Murray# singled giving CSUMB the first hit of the game. With the sacrifice bunt, Murray advanced to second then stole third on the next pitch. Murray was brought in, curtisy of senior third baseman #Jacob Flores#' single for his 28 run batted in of the season.
The Wildcats would score seven more before the eigth.
CSUMB would start the eigth inning with a single to center field off the bat of freshman #Tyler Young#. Young would not reach second base as the Wildcats attempted a double play, freshman #Kyle Espinola# reached on the play. Fhurong singled to right field advancing Espinola. Lopiccolo doubled, bringing in the lone Otter run of the inning.
The Otters bats could not hang with the Wildcats'. Chico out hit CSUMB 21-7.
The two teams face-off once again at Nettleton Stadium for the doubleheader, Saturday, starting at 12 p.m.
