SEASIDE, Calif.
– New head coach Artie Cairel has officially announced the 2009 Cal State Monterey Bay women’s soccer schedule.  This year’s slate features 10 home games, nine of them against California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) opponents.

Cairel embarks upon his inaugural season in fashion by opening the season at Seattle Pacific University. .

“Playing SPU in Seattle is always a challenge for they are a great team, with great coaching and the home field advantage of the artificial surface,” Cairel said. “I would not want to begin my women’s college coaching career any other way.”

CSUMB returns home to face another in region foe on Sept. 8, Notre Dame de Namur. This game marks the continuation of a rivalry that began when both were NAIA.  The Otters and Argonauts met consistently in the old Cal Pac tournament final.  Cairel feels that this game is not only a very good in region contest; it will play a major role in Northern California recruiting.

The Otters begin their conference play against the newest member of the CCAA, Cal State East Bay on Friday, Sept. 11 in Hayward. “In another fairy tale beginning, my first opponent in the CCAA is my alma mater,” Cairel said. “It has huge sentimental value as I am undefeated against my alma mater and it plays an even larger role in recruiting due to the proximity of the two universities and the large talent pool in the Bay Area.”

On Saturday, Aug. 22, the men’s and women’s soccer teams will also host its annual alumni game Make sure to mark your calendars and join in the celebration of the CSUMB soccer teams of the past and present.
