VOLLEYBALL
UP NEXT:
The CSUMB volleyball squad returns to the Kelp Bed this week, hosting Cal State East Bay on Friday, Nov. 6.  The Otters square off against No. 2 UC San Diego on Saturday, Nov. 7.

SENIOR DAY FAREWELL:
Saturday's contest will mark the last match at the Kelp Bed for four CSUMB seniors - #Katie Bos#, #Kerri Sudarsana#, #Alisha Thomas# and #Elizabeth Hanna#.

PAST WEEKEND: CSUMB recorded its second series sweep on Friday, Oct. 30 as the Otters won a three-set decision over Cal State Dominguez Hills.  Earlier this year, CSUMB won the series against Stanislaus with a five-set winner in Turlock.  On Saturday, the Otters took No. 21 to five sets (22-25, 25-18, 25-17, 22-25, 15-9).

RANKING UP AGAINST THE CCAA:
The Otters are now second in the conference in aces (1.82) per set. Rheann Fall leads the CCAA with 23 aces by averaging .49 a set and is ninth in kills per set with 3.28. Tiffaney Riggs has busted into the top 10 in block, ranked fourth after averaging .93 per set.

ANOTHER BOS RECORD COUNTDOWN:
After passing the 1,000 dig milestone earlier this year, senior #Katie Bos# is only 18 digs away from taking the CSUMB All-Time Dig Leader spot away from former Otter standout Brittany Etchings.

THE PIONEERS: Cal State East Bay (8-17, 6-11 CCAA) is only one spot higher than the Otters in the CCAA standings.  The Pioneers are coming into Friday's game on a three-game losing streak, capped by a five-set loss to Cal State Stanislaus on Saturday, Oct. 31.  The Otters dropped a five-set heartbreaker to the Pioneers in Hayward on Oct. 3.

THE TRITONS: The No. 2 UC San Diego Tritons (24-1, 16-1 CCAA) are tied for first-place with Cal State San Bernardino in the CCAA standings. On Oct. 2, the Otters took the first set from the Tritons, before falling in the next three (26-28, 25-10, 25-20, 26-24).

MEN'S BASKETBALL
UP NEXT:
The Otters wrap-up their exhibition season on Saturday, Nov. 7 by traveling to University of San Francisco.  Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the War Memorial Coliseum.

PAST WEEKEND: CSUMB traveled to Stockton to take on the University of the Pacific Tigers in its opening exhibition game.  The Otters fell 89-52, but had a strong showing by freshman #Davion Berry# who recorded 18 points while classmate #Brandon Ward# added seven points and dished out five assists.

COACH BISHOP'S CORNER: “We head to USF this Saturday to play our second exhibition of the season. We will need to do a much better job of rebounding against the Dons to keep the game close than we did at UOP. We got some good minutes from our new guys at UOP but we need to continue to grow as a team in the coming weeks.”

THE DONS: In the West Coast Conference Preseason Coaches Poll, USF was selected tied for fourth with Santa Clara University. The Dons finished last season with a 11-19 overall record and 3-11 in conference play. USF boasts a completely revamped roster, featuring just one player – two-time West Coast Conference scoring leader Dior Lowhorn – who was on the roster for the 2007-08 season.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
UP NEXT:
The 2009-10 CSUMB women's basketball team will see its first competitive action of the new season with an exhibition contest on Tuesday, Nov. 3..  The Otters travel to NCAA Division I Santa Clara University for a 7:30 p.m. tip-off

THE BRONCOS:
Santa Clara will be sending a very young team to take on the Otters, with a roster featuring seven true freshman and 12 of the team's 16 players being underclassmen. The Broncos finished the 2008-09 season with a 4-27 overall record and in last place in the West Coast Conference standings with a 1-13 record.
